A 12-year-old read out news,
“20 men attacked 4 Muslims in a train in the outskirts of New Delhi, fatally stabbing a teenager and seriously injuring 2 others.” He asked his mother, “Maa, why did they murder him?” Mother was numbed by hearing “murder” from her son and had no answers.
Since 2010, 28 Indians have been killed, out of which 24 are Muslims and 124 got injured. Mob attacked Muslims in accusation of carrying beef and tagging them as “anti-national”. Cow is considered as sacred by many Hindus. But this belief doesn’t give right to anyone to kill or attack anybody. “India is a secular country” this is what we have imbibed in ourselves. People are afraid to leave out of the house, for the fear of being attacked by somebody. Is this an idea of united India? If people are afraid to even leave their houses, their country is not safe place for them then it makes me feel afraid too, for we are under one roof and that’s India and I feel towards my fellow Indians. Dalits are also targeted since ages, for their caste. They are attacked by so-called “high” community. People, we are humans, we are recognized by our qualities not caste. Untag people, see the human.
Violence! This is what we are seeing, hearing in all these cases. Mob gathers, accuse some community and attack ruthlessly and all this happens in the name of “Religion”. No religion asks you to kill/attack people mercilessly. No religion wants disturbance and fear among people. We proudly say that we have great constitution but then what about following it? Law exists to handle crimes. Now, the question is how many killing figures are going to be displayed on paper. Heaving with sadness after reading news, is not gonna help. A firm voice of people will help that. The #notinmyname protest which was only scheduled in New Delhi reached out in Kolkata, Mumbai due to support of people for peaceful India through social media. We are Indians, we will proudly stand together regardless of any religion, community. Those who spread violence are evil minds and try to disturb the unity between people. Those attackers do not belong to any religion, they are deprived of humanity. Their crimes are putting India to shame and we won’t let that happen.
We live in democracy! That’s our strength. Government should bring the strict act so that people will not take law in their hands. History has witnessed the fact that violence leads to massive destruction. World Wars show excruciatingly painful damage to humans. Let’s stand together against violence. We want to live together in a harmony, without disrespecting each other. We want our youth, children to see love, support, unity, positivity around them. We don’t want them to think that violence, hate, destruction breed here. Let’s stop the contagion dressed in terror which affects people and make them feel strangers in their own home country. This is not about any particular person. This is for Indians. This is for my India. We got freedom long back. We also want India to be free of discrimination.
Meanwhile….amidst of chaos, boy innocently asked his mother, “If cow should not be killed, then why are these men killing that cock in front of God?”
Mom stood speechless…
